Arsenal Football Club was originally founded in 1886 in Woolwich, London but moved to Holloway, London later in their history. For the first couple of years, Arsenal was a munition workers' team from southeast London. Arsenal became a professional club in 1891 and joined the English Football League two years later, becoming the first southern-based club to join the league. Arsenal currently compete domestically in the English Premier League and traditionally play in a red and white kit.

Arsenal played their home games at Highbury from 1913 until they moved to their current home the Emirates Stadium in 2006. The Emirates Stadium cost a reported £390 million and is the 3rd largest football stadium in England. Arsenal's home ground is also regularly used by the Brazil national team as a home ground for International friendlies.

The club received a number of honours during the 1930s, when the club won 5 league titles and 2 FA Cups. Arsenal's biggest achievement came in the 2003-04 season when the club completed the season unbeaten in the league. They became the second team to achieve invincible status in the top flight after Preston North End, but Arsenal played nearly twice the number of games during their run.

Arsenal have a strong rivalry with a number of London clubs, due to the close proximity of many of the London areas. Their largest rivals are fellow the north London club, Tottenham Hotspur. Games between the two clubs are known as the North London Derby.

Domestically, Arsenal are regarded as one of the most successful clubs in English football. They have won 13 English league titles and hold the joint record for the number of FA Cup wins with 11 and have also completed a number of league doubles. In European competition, Arsenal were runners-up in the 2006 UEFA Champions League Final, losing to FC Barcelona.

Financially and as a brand, Arsenal are regarded as one of the World's largest football clubs. The club is said to have one of the highest incomes and fan bases globally, with a value estimated at $1.3 billion in 2014.
